Sam’s Story

Sam’s Story

How have you been coping with physical distancing?

[In Cambodia] we haven’t really done social distancing. Just tried to meet in smaller groups. At first I self isolated it got my eyes back on God. When all this happened our base closed and we all had to move to different places really quickly. I felt very alone and very depressed. I couldn’t eat or leave my bed. I prayed a lot in this time and God gave me much hope and joy and made sure I knew I was not alone.

What have you been struggling with?

I have been mostly struggling with being overwhelmed and angry at the same time. People have been telling my DTS (Discipleship Training School) students not nice things about me, but I keep trying to lay it down and finish DTS well. They graduated Friday. But still emotional.

What has God been saying to you in this season?

God has been revealing who he is to me, he has shown me what he can do and has been teaching me to seek him first and desire him first and to go all in and give everything to him. I have laid down everything he told me too. He has been speaking about healing my heart and resting in joy and moving forward in love and forgiveness even if nothing changes.

What have you been doing to keep yourself busy?

We have still been working here. I made food packages for people and helped deliver them, I finished the DTS and just graduated our students last Friday, and now ill be doing 40 days of prayer and fasting.

How have you been connecting with God?

One of the ways besides prayer is i have joined a couple of courses. Inner healing and leadership, and intro to one thing. One is re-aligning my heart with Jesus making him number one again and the other is doing a similar thing but is also focused on counselling and connecting with God emotionally. I pray every day and do different things with God, kind of like dates.

How have you been connecting with the people around you?

I have been connecting lots with a YWAM team that got stuck here and spending lots of time with them, making sure they have the info they need at this time. I have also made friends with the guys upstairs and sometimes have dinner with them. I am connected with maybe 3 people from my base, but don’t really hear much from the others just a message every now and then.

What is your hope in this time of trial?

My hope for this time is a transformation of my base and my own heart. Whatever can be shaken let it be shaken and filled up with God. Let God shake you, let him take you back to the heart of who he is, he has given us an invitation and stopped the world so that there is nothing we can do but worship him, intercede with him. He is shaking the church awake, its time to raise up now, its time for mercy and evangelism, lets go to the next level with God.

Is there any way our Church Family can pray for or support you right now?

You can pray for this next 40 days, that Gods grace will cover it and protect me. That he will teach me what is on his heart and how to pray it out and that he will give me answers for my future in Cambodia. Also pray for Cambodia things are getting harder for the people, there is more and more poverty and starvation.
